About
It started with “wama lama ding dong.” Wendy said it and something had to be done. There were some dicey moments, but in the end I decided against having her committed and instead settled on making a web site. So I sidled up to one of the Internets, surfed on over to GoDaddy.com, registered the domain, and purchased a hosting plan.
“Hey!”
“What now?”
“How about a web site?”
“What for?”
“’Cause it would be swell.”
“Ah, jeeze, Eeedit.”
“Oh, Archie…”
In the interest of getting it done and keeping things as simple as possible, I resolved to take advantage of the web-site-in-a-box options available on GoDaddy. Since I had signed up for Windows hosting (as opposed to Linux), there were two choices: Community Server and DotNetNuke. I believe both started life as open source. Over time Community Server has gradually transitioned to a more commercial licensing model while DotNetNuke remains an open source project. Both offer what have become standard and essential community features: blogs, forums, photo galleries, and file storage. I tried both in turn and in turn, each stopped working. Finally, after much frustration, I blew up the site and switched to Linux hosting. There are far more choices with Linux and so far, the ones I have tried have been easier to work with and have not mysteriously stopped working.
About this site… Anyone can view the photos and blog entries. You can also respond to posts but to do that you first need to register. Enjoy!
